Spartanburg, South Carolina – Roads remain flooded and cleanup is underway across Spartanburg County after a deluge of up to 4 inches of rain late Wednesday into Thursday morning left neighborhoods and highways under water. Drivers continue to face hazardous conditions midday Thursday, especially in low-lying areas from Greer through downtown Spartanburg.
According to the US National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg, the hardest-hit areas, including Duncan and Lyman, recorded more than 3 inches of rain overnight. While the heaviest rain has moved out, flood advisories are still active for parts of the Upstate, with runoff keeping several secondary roads, including stretches of I-85 and Highway 29, partially closed or impassable.
Emergency crews are out assessing damage and assisting motorists as water slowly recedes. In downtown Spartanburg, flooding along Fairforest Creek and adjacent neighborhoods continues to cause travel delays, and some schools have announced early dismissals or bus delays. Officials urge everyone to avoid flooded roads and keep away from fast-moving water, as even shallow flooding can be dangerous.
If your area was impacted, report flooding to local authorities and avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve. This rainfall event marks one of the region’s wettest nights of the summer and may continue to disrupt traffic and daily routines into the afternoon.
Stay tuned for ongoing updates from local officials as crews monitor road conditions and additional advisories may be issued.
