Miami, Florida – With South Florida’s heat index soaring above 105 degrees Wednesday, a heat advisory is in effect until 7 p.m., raising the risk of heat exhaustion for anyone outdoors for prolonged periods.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, the combination of a hot, humid morning and a delay in storms has created a critical window for dangerous heat across Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Homestead, Belle Glade, and surrounding areas. Residents are urged to hydrate, seek cool spaces, and avoid strenuous outdoor activities—especially between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.—to avoid heat-related illness.
Communities across Miami-Dade, Broward, Collier, and Palm Beach counties will experience peak heat index values in the 105–110° range, impacting road crews, utility workers, and outdoor events. Air conditioning and fans are recommended, but opening windows will not provide enough relief. City and county officials warn that power outages could amplify heat risks for vulnerable groups, including children and seniors.
Anyone without reliable access to air conditioning should visit designated cooling centers. Limit outdoor exposure and monitor local alerts as thunderstorms expected later may bring brief relief, but until then, extreme caution is needed.
Heat advisories remain in place through 7 p.m. Wednesday. Updates will be issued as conditions evolve.
