Eureka, California – Relief spread along the Northern California coast Thursday morning after the National Weather Service canceled the tsunami advisory for Del Norte County. While the threat of a tsunami has ended, officials continue to urge caution along beaches and harbors as minor sea level changes remain possible throughout the day.
According to the US National Weather Service in Eureka, the advisory was lifted early Thursday after tsunami-generated waves and dangerous beach conditions subsided. Local agencies warn that although the immediate danger is over, coastal areas near Crescent City and other Del Norte beaches may still experience unpredictable currents and slight water level changes, especially inside bays and harbors.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to stay off rocks and jetties and remain alert to sudden water movements, particularly in areas like Crescent City Harbor and Kellogg Beach. Harbormasters and emergency crews will continue to monitor the situation. No significant damage or injuries have been reported, and all regional alerts have been lifted.
The NWS advises anyone heading to the coast to use caution for the rest of Thursday, as aftereffects can linger. Updates will follow if new hazards emerge, but normal conditions are expected to return by Friday morning.
