Alexandria, Louisiana – Heat and humidity are colliding with tropical air masses this week, pushing temperatures and flash flood risks to dangerous levels across Central and Southwest Louisiana. A heat advisory remains in effect for Alexandria and surrounding parishes until 7 p.m. Wednesday, with heat index values soaring as high as 111°F.

According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, a moist, tropical-like air mass will linger across the region through Saturday, triggering daily rounds of thunderstorms and potential flash flooding. The Weather Prediction Center has placed much of the region under a “Marginal Risk” for excessive rainfall, meaning localized flooding could occur—especially during peak afternoon hours.

In addition to Alexandria, communities like Oakdale, Opelousas, and Lake Charles will see high temperatures in the mid- to upper-90s, with rain chances between 50–80% Thursday and Friday. Flash flooding may be most likely along low-lying roads, drainage systems, and flood-prone neighborhoods.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak heat hours, and avoid driving through flooded roads. More rainfall is expected through Saturday, with conditions slowly easing into Sunday.
