Davenport, Iowa – Thunderstorms could drench eastern Iowa again by Thursday afternoon, raising renewed concerns for flooding, road hazards, and travel delays.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, a Flood Watch remains in effect through early Friday, as repeated rounds of storms could drop an additional 1 to 2 inches of rain. Runoff may lead to dangerous conditions on roadways—particularly U.S. Highway 61 near the Wapsipinicon River, which remains above major flood stage.

Residents in Clinton, Scott, and surrounding counties should avoid flooded roadways and monitor conditions closely through Thursday evening. Stronger storms may include damaging winds and heavy rain from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday. The area has already seen elevated river levels, with the Wapsipinicon River near DeWitt 4S expected to approach 12.5 feet by nightfall.

Stay alert for updated flood warnings and prepare for additional downpours, especially if you live near low-lying or flood-prone areas. Emergency managers urge residents to keep phones charged, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio for alerts.
