Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Storms, choppy waves, and cooler winds are lining up for southeast Wisconsin Thursday, July 31, with beachgoers and travelers urged to take extra care.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, scattered thunderstorms will move across the region Thursday morning and midday. Although the storm threat eases by the afternoon, high waves and dangerous currents will persist along Lake Michigan beaches through early Friday. A Beach Hazard Statement remains in effect for Milwaukee, Racine, and Kenosha counties until 4 a.m. Friday.
Northeast winds around 15 mph will push dangerous waves toward shorelines. Officials advise avoiding swimming at unguarded beaches, especially along Bradford Beach in Milwaukee and near North Beach in Racine. Swimmers caught in rip currents can be swept away quickly — stay dry if red flags are flying.
Rainfall amounts from Thursday’s passing storms will be light but could cause slippery conditions for morning commuters on Interstate 94 and Highway 41. The chance for severe weather is low, but a few rumbles of thunder may linger before skies clear by evening.
