Omaha, Nebraska – Heat index values could soar as high as 110°F across eastern Nebraska and western Iowa Tuesday afternoon, prompting a Heat Advisory through 8 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, the advisory spans from noon to 8 p.m., impacting cities like Omaha, Lincoln, Council Bluffs, and Norfolk. The extreme heat raises the risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly for vulnerable populations and those working or spending extended time outdoors.
In Omaha, the heat index is expected to peak near 108°F, while Lincoln and Fremont could feel like 105°F or higher. Areas farther south, including Beatrice, York, and Clarinda, may reach 106°F–109°F. A slightly cooler air mass may bring relief to parts of northeast Nebraska later today, but uncertainty remains on how far south the cooldown will extend.
Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and check on neighbors, especially the elderly. Local officials recommend using air-conditioned spaces when possible and never leaving children or pets in vehicles.
The heat advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday, with continued updates expected if conditions worsen or new alerts are issued.
