New York, NY – Triple-digit heat index values are gripping the Northeast today as extreme heat warnings and advisories stretch across New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.

According to the National Weather Service, high temperatures will climb into the upper 90s with apparent temperatures reaching 100°F to 104°F in many locations, especially across the Hudson Valley, northern New Jersey, and interior Connecticut. Affected areas include White Plains, Paramus, Poughkeepsie, Danbury, and Hartford—where it could feel as hot as 104°F this afternoon.

The combination of intense heat and humidity poses a high risk of heat-related illness. Officials urge residents to limit outdoor activity, especially during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Cooling centers have opened across multiple counties, including Westchester, Bergen, and Fairfield.

In New York City, a heat index of 104°F is expected in the Bronx and Queens, with similar values in nearby towns like Bridgeport and New Haven. In New Jersey, temperatures in West Milford and Middletown are forecast to feel like 105°F by mid-afternoon.

The heat wave is expected to persist into the evening, with little overnight relief. Additional warnings may be issued if conditions worsen.
