Fort Wayne, Indiana – Dangerous heat and scattered thunderstorms are making a steamy return across northern Indiana today, with heat indices soaring between 93 and 102 degrees and storm chances persisting through Wednesday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, a cold front will arrive Thursday, bringing much-needed relief from the heat. Today’s high temperatures will reach 89–92°F with a 20% chance of afternoon storms. Tuesday night carries a 30% risk of thunderstorms, and Wednesday will see more widespread chances of showers (25–40%) with highs still lingering in the mid to upper 80s.
Storms will likely be more active Wednesday night, with scattered lightning and locally heavy rain. Temperatures will fall into the low 60s overnight. Thursday morning brings one last round of scattered storms (40% chance), but by afternoon, cooler and drier air will settle in with highs in the mid 70s.
Residents across Fort Wayne, South Bend, and Goshen should limit outdoor activity during peak heat, stay hydrated, and avoid non-essential travel during storms. Power outages or flash flooding could occur with any strong cells.
