Concord, N.H. – Residents across southern and central New Hampshire should prepare for oppressive heat Tuesday, with feels-like temperatures climbing into the upper 90s by afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Gray, a Heat Advisory remains in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, for Hillsborough, Merrimack, Strafford, and Rockingham counties. The heat index — which combines temperature and humidity — could peak between 95°F and 98°F during the late afternoon.

Manchester, Nashua, Concord, and Portsmouth are among the cities expected to experience extreme heat. Overnight lows in the 70s will offer little relief, raising the risk of heat-related illnesses — especially for older adults, children, and those without access to air conditioning.

Health officials urge residents to limit outdoor activity, check in on vulnerable neighbors, and stay hydrated. Local cooling centers may open if conditions worsen. Drivers should also never leave children or pets in parked vehicles.

This is the second heat event this July for southeastern New Hampshire, with humidity levels again pushing heat indices well above seasonal norms.

The advisory remains active through 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a potential for additional warnings if heat lingers into midweek.
