Amarillo, Texas – Scorching summer heat is making a comeback in the Texas Panhandle Monday, with Amarillo expected to hit 95°F by late afternoon. After a mild weekend, residents will feel the shift as temperatures rise under clear skies, prompting a summer weather alert that highlights potential health and safety risks.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, south-southwest winds between 10–15 mph will accompany Monday’s heat. Gusts may reach 20 mph, creating low humidity conditions that raise the risk of dehydration and heat exhaustion for anyone working or exercising outdoors. Drivers along I-40 should also watch for heat-related vehicle stress.

The heat continues into Tuesday and Wednesday with back-to-back highs again near 95°F. Overnight lows stay warm, only dipping into the upper 60s and low 70s, offering little relief. A slight 20% chance of thunderstorms creeps in by Wednesday night, but most of the workweek remains dry and hot.

Safety Tips:

  • Stay indoors during peak heat (2–5 p.m.)
  • Drink extra water, even if you’re not thirsty
  • Check tires and coolant levels before driving
