Charleston, W.Va. – Scattered thunderstorms and muggy summer heat will return to Charleston by midday Monday, July 28, just in time to snarl commutes and outdoor plans. The National Weather Service warns that heat index values may climb to 95°F as storms develop across the Kanawha Valley.
According to the NWS Charleston office, showers and thunderstorms will likely begin after 2 p.m. Monday, with brief heavy downpours and gusty winds possible. Highs will top out around 89°F, with calm winds shifting from the south at 6 mph. Rainfall totals may reach a quarter inch or more in spots, especially along I-64 through Kanawha County where ponding could become an issue during the evening drive.
While no severe weather is expected at this time, residents are urged to secure outdoor items, stay hydrated, and monitor alerts throughout the day. Local emergency services suggest delaying non-essential travel during peak storm hours and charging mobile devices in advance in case of outages.
