Raleigh, North Carolina – Dangerous heat is surging across central and eastern North Carolina today, with temperatures and humidity combining to pose major health risks through at least the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, a Heat Advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday for counties including Wake, Durham, Cumberland, and Johnston. A prolonged period of oppressive heat is underway, with “major” heat risk forecast across much of the Piedmont and Coastal Plain. An Extreme Heat Watch is in place for Saturday and Sunday as temperatures remain elevated with little overnight relief.
Cities including Raleigh, Fayetteville, Rocky Mount, and Clinton may feel like 105–110°F, with extended exposure dangerous for anyone without proper cooling or hydration. Outdoor work and recreation are strongly discouraged during peak hours. Officials urge residents to stay indoors, use air conditioning or local cooling centers, and check on vulnerable neighbors.
The heat wave is expected to persist through early next week, making this one of the longest stretches of dangerous heat so far this summer. More alerts may be issued as conditions evolve.
