Nashville, TN – A woman was struck and killed early Tuesday after stepping onto I-40 West near Old Hickory Boulevard, resulting in a fatal hit-and-run incident that remains under investigation.

According to Nashville police, the collision happened at approximately 12:30 a.m. when the unidentified woman exited a gray SUV on the right shoulder of the interstate and walked into the roadway. Authorities allege she was hit by a burgundy sedan, which did not stop, and then by several additional vehicles. Police say the driver of the SUV left the scene after the woman exited the vehicle.

A Fiat driver who allegedly witnessed the crash was the only involved motorist to remain at the scene, authorities said. Police report the Fiat suffered heavy front-end and windshield damage, and may also have roof damage from the impact.

The Medical Examiner’s Office is working to identify the deceased. Anyone with information about the crash or the vehicles involved is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.

Officials say I-40 West traffic was disrupted for several hours Tuesday morning as investigators processed the scene and cleared the damaged vehicles. Updates on road conditions and any potential lane closures will be provided as they become available.

The investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement encourages witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from the area near Old Hickory Boulevard around 12:30 a.m. to come forward.
