Huntsville, Alabama – Blistering heat is gripping North Alabama and Southern Middle Tennessee today, with heat index values soaring as high as 107 degrees through 9 p.m. CDT Tuesday, raising the risk of heat-related illnesses.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, a Heat Advisory remains in effect for Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin (AL), Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Morgan, and Cullman counties in Alabama, as well as Moore, Lincoln, and Franklin counties in Tennessee.

Cities like Huntsville, Florence, Decatur, Cullman, Winchester, and Fayetteville are facing extreme afternoon heat. Outdoor workers and vulnerable populations are especially at risk. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration advises taking frequent breaks in shade or air conditioning and watching for signs of heat stroke.

Air-conditioned spaces are critical today. Check in on elderly neighbors and avoid strenuous activity between noon and 6 p.m. Hydration is essential—drink water, not caffeine or alcohol. Roads, sidewalks, and car interiors may reach dangerously high temperatures.

Though the morning fog in parts of Tennessee has cleared, high humidity lingers. Relief isn’t expected until late evening, with no significant cooldown overnight.

Warnings remain in effect until 9 p.m., and additional advisories may follow if temperatures stay elevated into midweek.
