Davenport, Iowa – A surge of dangerously hot air will blanket the Quad Cities and surrounding areas this week, with heat index values reaching up to 105 degrees by late Tuesday and potentially soaring as high as 110 by Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, a Heat Advisory is in effect from noon to 7 p.m. today for much of eastern Iowa, northwest Illinois, and northeast Missouri—including Davenport, Rock Island, Iowa City, Moline, and Burlington. An Extreme Heat Watch takes over Wednesday morning and remains through Thursday evening, warning of “dangerously hot conditions” across the region.

Communities along the Mississippi River, from Cedar Rapids to Macomb, should expect hazardous outdoor conditions. Local officials urge residents to limit strenuous activity, stay in air-conditioned spaces, and check on elderly neighbors or those without cooling. Utility crews in Muscatine and Iowa City are monitoring the grid as air conditioning demand rises. Major roads like I-80 and I-74 could see heat-related vehicle breakdowns and emergency calls.

This is the first significant heat event of the summer for many in the region, with daytime highs and oppressive humidity combining to make outdoor work and travel hazardous. Health experts remind parents and pet owners: never leave children or animals unattended in vehicles, as interiors can become lethal within minutes.

Heat warnings remain in effect through Thursday evening. More advisories could follow if conditions persist. Stay tuned for local updates.
