Chicago, IL – Illinois State Police have arrested a Chicago man following an alleged shooting incident on Interstate 290 early Friday morning, securing felony charges on the same day.
According to the Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1, 29-year-old Reginald McGee of Chicago was taken into custody and charged with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm (Class 1 Felony) and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon (Class 4 Felony) in connection with an expressway shooting that occurred on I-290 westbound near Golf Road around 7:55 a.m. Friday.
Authorities say ISP officers responded to a report that a vehicle had allegedly been shot at by the driver of another car while traveling on the expressway. No injuries were reported in the alleged incident, but an investigation led agents to identify both a suspect vehicle and the alleged suspect.
According to police, McGee was taken into custody later that same day. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office filed the charges following the investigation. McGee is being held pending his first court appearance. Further details about the case have not been released.
Authorities stress that the charges are not evidence against the defendant, who is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
