Wichita, Kansas – Wichita residents should prepare for dangerous heat peaking Tuesday, July 22, as temperatures soar to 98°F under mostly clear skies. A prolonged Excessive Heat Warning remains in effect through 7 p.m. Wednesday, with heat index values climbing as high as 106°F.
According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, south winds up to 15 mph and low overnight temperatures in the mid-70s will offer little relief. Those traveling along I-135 or working outdoors are urged to hydrate regularly, avoid peak sun hours from 2 to 5 p.m., and check vehicles and pets for heat exposure risks.
Tuesday’s extreme heat will be followed by more sunshine on Wednesday with a high near 96°F, but a weak front could bring slight thunderstorm chances overnight into Thursday. A 30% chance of rain is expected both Thursday and Thursday night as temperatures dip slightly into the mid-90s. Friday clears out and remains dry, setting the stage for a hot weekend.
Looking ahead, Saturday and Sunday will bring sweltering highs of 98°F and 100°F respectively — possibly the hottest stretch of the summer yet. No rain is currently expected over the weekend, but heat safety remains a top priority.
⚠️ Heat alerts remain active through Wednesday — stay weather-aware and watch for further advisories.
