Memphis, Tennessee – Extreme heat will tighten its grip on the Mid-South Tuesday, with heat index values expected to soar as high as 111° in Memphis, Southaven, and surrounding areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, an Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, for West Tennessee, North Mississippi, and East Arkansas. This warning replaces a previous heat advisory and expands coverage to include critical travel corridors such as I-55, I-40, and US 61, where pavement buckling and car trouble risks rise sharply in this heat.
Cities impacted include Memphis, Germantown, Collierville, West Memphis, Oxford, and Clarksdale. Residents are urged to stay indoors during peak heat hours, drink water frequently, and avoid strenuous activity. Heat-related illness can set in quickly under these extreme conditions — especially for children, seniors, and outdoor workers.
Memphis will see a high near 99°F on Tuesday with minimal cloud cover and west winds around 5 mph. The overnight low will drop to only 78°F, offering little overnight relief.
