Pittsburgh, Pa. – Summer weather turns active Sunday, July 20th, as dangerous storms and flooding risks hit the Pittsburgh region. Residents should brace for heavy rainfall, strong winds, and potential flash flooding—especially along major roadways like Parkway East (I-376).

According to the National Weather Service, a Marginal Risk for excessive rainfall is in effect across Allegheny County through Sunday afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms will push into the area during the late morning, intensifying after 1 p.m. Some storms may produce damaging winds, with the highest risk of minor flooding in low-lying neighborhoods and along creeks.

Local officials urge everyone to avoid driving through high water, especially on flood-prone routes such as Route 51 and Parkway East. If you live in areas with poor drainage, secure outdoor items and be prepared for brief power outages. Rain should taper by Sunday night, but scattered showers may linger.

Looking ahead, Monday will bring sunshine and calmer conditions with highs in the mid-80s. By Wednesday, expect the summer heat to return—daytime temperatures could soar into the low 90s, with heat indices pushing the upper 90s through Friday. Limit outdoor activities, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors as the heat intensifies.

Stay weather aware and monitor local alerts for any new advisories. Additional thunderstorms are possible later in the week, with the next update from the National Weather Service expected Monday morning.
