Charleston, West Virginia – Flash flooding and severe thunderstorms are expected to impact much of West Virginia Saturday, with Charleston, Huntington, and Beckley at risk for damaging winds and small hail late this afternoon through the evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a marginal severe weather risk remains in effect as storms move across the region. The main hazards are heavy downpours, wind gusts capable of downing trees or power lines, and localized hail. A marginal excessive rainfall risk is also in place, raising the chance of flash flooding—especially along low-lying roads, creeks, and urban areas.

Counties including Kanawha, Cabell, Raleigh, and Wood should monitor weather alerts closely. Roadways like I-64, I-77, and US-60 may experience hazardous conditions or temporary closures if flooding develops. Residents are urged to avoid flooded roads, secure outdoor items, and have flashlights and chargers ready for possible outages.

Today’s storms follow a week of scattered rainfall, increasing the ground’s saturation and flash flood risk. If you must travel, allow extra time and check road conditions before heading out.

Thunderstorm and flash flood risks will continue through late Saturday night, with further updates possible as conditions evolve.
