Lake Charles, Louisiana – Scattered thunderstorms and flash flooding could disrupt travel and outdoor plans across southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana Saturday, as a very moist air mass lingers over the region. The National Weather Service warns that localized downpours may trigger marginal flooding, especially in low-lying or already saturated areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, a Marginal Risk (level 1 out of 4) for flash flooding covers cities like Lake Charles, Leesville, Beaumont, and Lafayette through Saturday night. Rain chances run as high as 60% Saturday afternoon, then drop quickly as storms taper off by Sunday.

Heat will build rapidly starting Sunday, pushing afternoon heat index values near or above 105 degrees through Wednesday. Cities including Alexandria, DeRidder, and Lafayette will see actual highs in the mid-90s with “feels-like” temperatures reaching 107 by Tuesday. Isolated rain or storms may return late Wednesday with a new surge of tropical moisture.

Drivers should avoid flooded roadways, monitor updates, and hydrate often. Limit strenuous activities during peak heat, and check on neighbors and pets. If you hear thunder, seek shelter indoors.

Rain and flooding risks will fade by Sunday, but heat advisories may continue into midweek. More alerts are possible if tropical moisture increases.
