Houston, Texas – A surge of tropical moisture is bringing steady rain to Southeast Texas on Friday, with locally heavy showers expected east of I-45 through early Saturday, potentially leading to minor flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in Houston-Galveston, areas east and southeast of Houston, including Liberty, Chambers, and Galveston counties, face a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 4) for excessive rainfall. Isolated totals may reach up to 1.5 inches, particularly where storms train along the coast. Rain chances taper west of I-45, with drier and hotter weather expected by Sunday.

Localized downpours could impact morning and evening travel on highways including I-10, TX-146, and US-59. Commuters should remain alert for ponding water and reduced visibility. Flash flood guidance indicates a sharp gradient, increasing the risk of urban flooding in low-lying areas.

Temperatures will remain in the upper 80s to low 90s Friday, with rain-cooled spots staying cooler. Once the rain moves out, highs will soar into the upper 90s by Monday across much of the Houston metro.

Rain chances drop significantly after Saturday, with a prolonged dry and hot pattern returning early next week.
