Gaylord, Michigan – Drivers and residents across northern Michigan should prepare for a dramatic shift in weather this week, as clear skies and summer heat give way to increasing thunderstorm chances by Tuesday night.

According to the US National Weather Service in Gaylord, tonight’s conditions will remain mostly clear with overnight lows ranging from 58 to 65 degrees. On Tuesday, temperatures are set to climb, with daytime highs reaching between 80 and 92 degrees in Gaylord, Traverse City, and Petoskey.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to move in late Tuesday night, potentially affecting commutes and outdoor activities across Otsego, Emmet, and Cheboygan counties. Isolated storms could bring heavy downpours and gusty winds, especially near major roadways like I-75 and M-32. Residents are encouraged to charge devices and secure outdoor items ahead of the incoming storms.

Those planning lake or camping trips should stay weather-aware, as rain chances persist through at least Thursday night. The NWS advises monitoring updates and being prepared for changing conditions, especially if traveling.

Rain and thunderstorm risks continue through midweek, with additional advisories possible if severe weather develops.
