New Orleans, Louisiana – Dangerous heat and strong afternoon thunderstorms could disrupt travel and outdoor plans across southeast Louisiana on Friday, with impacts intensifying through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in New Orleans/Baton Rouge, showers and thunderstorms are likely after 1 p.m. Friday, July 11, especially near New Orleans Lakefront Airport and along I-10. Highs will reach 90°F with a heat index topping 106°F. The chance of precipitation is 80%. Motorists should be alert for ponding on roads during the evening commute and reduce speed in heavy downpours.

Storms may linger into Friday night, but conditions will briefly improve before another round of heat and storms returns Saturday afternoon. Saturday’s high climbs to 92°F, with a 50% chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Winds will remain light, but saturated ground could lead to flash flooding in low-lying neighborhoods.

Sunday brings a 70% chance of rain with possible thunderstorms after 1 p.m. and another high near 92°F. Rain chances continue into Monday and Tuesday, with daily highs hovering around 93°F. Slightly lower nighttime rain potential means patchy drying, but the pattern remains humid and storm-prone.

Residents should limit strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat, ensure pets have water and shade, and avoid flooded streets.

Storms remain in the forecast through Tuesday, July 15, with potential for additional alerts. Stay weather-aware and check for updates daily.
