Monroe Township, MI – Two teenage boys are under investigation following a late-night break-in at a Monroe Township outlet mall that houses several marijuana dispensaries. Authorities say both teens were staying at a nearby hotel with a family member at the time.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to an alarm call just before midnight Sunday in the 14500 block of Laplaisance Road. The property, which includes multiple recreational marijuana dispensaries, showed evidence of a recent break-in upon deputies’ arrival.

The suspects were identified as a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old male, both Monroe County residents. Investigators said the teens were in town with an adult family member staying at a nearby hotel when the incident occurred.

The 17-year-old was lodged at the Monroe County Youth Center. The 16-year-old, however, was released to his mother due to updated state guidelines restricting juvenile detention eligibility. Both teens now face potential charges, which have been forwarded to the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office.

Deputy Austin Graham of the Uniformed Services Division continues to investigate the case. The Sheriff’s Office urges anyone with information to call the Detective Bureau at 734-240-7530.
