Tallahassee, Florida – Scattered thunderstorms are expected to sweep across North Florida Tuesday, bringing lightning, gusty winds, and brief heavy downpours as highs climb into the low to mid-90s.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, storms will begin near the Gulf Coast late Tuesday morning before pushing inland through the afternoon. Wind gusts could reach 35 to 45 mph, with frequent cloud-to-ground lightning posing a threat to outdoor activities.

Cities including Tallahassee, Panama City, Dothan, and Valdosta could see a quick inch or two of rain under stronger cells. Forecasters warn of nuisance flooding in low-lying areas with poor drainage, especially during peak afternoon hours. Temperatures are forecast to hit 93°F in Dothan and Albany, 92°F in Valdosta and Thomasville, and 91°F in Tallahassee.

The National Weather Service urges residents to follow lightning safety: “See a Flash, Dash Inside!” Outdoor events should pause at the first sound of thunder. Shelter in a building or hard-topped vehicle and wait 30 minutes after the last strike before resuming activity.

Typical summer weather—hot, humid, and stormy—will persist through the week with similar patterns expected daily.
