Orlando, Fla. – Swimmers and beachgoers across East Central Florida should brace for scattered storms, sizzling heat, and dangerous rip currents through Tuesday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, peak heat indices could soar to 106°F, while the risk of rip currents remains moderate at all northern Brevard and Volusia County beaches. Surf conditions of 2 to 3 feet could pull even strong swimmers into deeper waters. Scattered thunderstorms—with lightning and gusts up to 45 mph—are expected to develop from mid to late afternoon.
Cities including Orlando, Kissimmee, and Sanford will see highs in the low 90s with 50–60% chances of rain. Along the coast, Daytona Beach and Melbourne will reach 89–90°F, with storms expected to impact afternoon beach traffic. The highest storm coverage is forecast inland, but all counties should stay weather-aware.
Officials urge residents to hydrate often, limit outdoor exposure, and stay indoors during storms. Beach visitors should heed lifeguard instructions and warning flags posted along the shore.
Storm chances continue into Wednesday with similar heat index levels, so advisories may be updated.
