Grand Forks, N.D. – Clusters of severe thunderstorms are rolling across eastern North Dakota this afternoon, bringing the potential for damaging winds up to 70 mph and hail as large as 2 inches through 5 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, the most intense activity is concentrated in a Red Area covering Devils Lake, Mayville, and up toward Cavalier. These storms are producing large hail and wind gusts strong enough to down trees and power lines. To the west, an Orange Area stretches across Valley City, Jamestown, and areas near Rockford, where storms are expected to intensify and move eastward.
Travel could be dangerous on Highways 2, 281, and I-94, especially in regions where storms are forming rapidly. Residents in mobile homes or outdoors are urged to seek sturdy shelter and have multiple ways to receive emergency alerts.
Storm activity is expected to weaken after sunset. Additional warnings could still be issued, so remain weather aware through the evening.
