San Francisco, CA – Strong coastal winds are expected to pick up across the Bay Area just in time for Independence Day, with gusts in San Francisco reaching nearly 30 mph Thursday night into Friday.

According to the National Weather Service, winds will begin intensifying Thursday afternoon with sustained west-southwest winds of 15 to 26 mph and gusts up to 33 mph by evening. The gusty pattern continues into Thursday night and through July 4th, with breezy west winds up to 23 mph and gusts approaching 29 mph.

While skies remain mostly sunny and temperatures hover in the mid to upper 60s, residents planning outdoor holiday activities should secure loose items and prepare for wind-blown debris. Rooftop fireworks and BBQ setups near coastal cliffs or high-rises may be unsafe due to the elevated gusts.

Travelers on elevated bridges like the Bay Bridge or Golden Gate may experience swaying conditions, particularly in high-profile vehicles. No rain is in the forecast, but the wind will be the dominant factor for outdoor plans this weekend.

Winds are expected to ease slightly by Saturday morning. Another round of clear, sunny days returns early next week.
