Albuquerque, N.M. – Scattered thunderstorms could disrupt afternoon plans in Albuquerque on Thursday, with isolated showers expected by 3 p.m. and high temperatures pushing into the low 90s.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, there’s a 50% chance of storms Thursday afternoon and evening, with wind gusts and brief downpours possible. Most rainfall totals will stay under a quarter-inch, though heavier pockets are possible near the Sandia foothills and in southern Bernalillo County.

Wednesday brings calmer conditions, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 90°F. By Independence Day, temperatures will spike to 95°F under clear skies, prompting heat safety concerns for outdoor celebrations. Residents planning fireworks or cookouts should stay hydrated and take breaks in shaded areas.

The weekend turns dangerously hot, with Albuquerque expected to hit 98°F Saturday and potentially 99°F by Sunday. Overnight lows will remain in the upper 60s, offering little relief. With humidity from earlier storms, the heat index could climb further in valley areas.

This is the first extended heat stretch of July, and officials urge residents to limit strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours. More updates are expected if additional advisories are issued.
