Birmingham, Alabama – Strong storms and damaging winds could hit Central Alabama Tuesday afternoon as the final wave of widespread showers moves through the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, a front pushing into the state will fuel thunderstorms from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m., with isolated severe storms possible. The primary threat is damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph, which may cause downed trees or brief power outages across cities like Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Anniston, and Montgomery.

Counties at risk include Jefferson, Shelby, Tuscaloosa, Etowah, and Calhoun, all under a Level 1 Marginal Risk. Residents should monitor multiple alert systems, have access to sturdy shelter, and be ready to pivot evening travel plans, especially if lightning or localized flooding develops.

Highs today will push into the upper 80s and low 90s before storms arrive. Rain chances will begin to taper off by Wednesday, offering a drier start to the holiday week.

More updates are expected this evening. Stay alert for any watches or warnings issued through tonight.
