Wichita, Kansas – Heavy rain and strong storms are drenching central and south central Kansas early Monday, with damaging winds and localized flooding likely before 7 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, severe thunderstorms are possible across a broad swath from Salina to Medicine Lodge. Wind gusts may reach up to 60 mph over central Kansas, particularly near Great Bend and Salina, where a “severe” risk zone is in effect. Flash flooding is possible in low-lying areas and spots with poor drainage.

Heavy downpours are ongoing across Hutchinson, Wichita, and Coffeyville, where minor flooding and travel delays are likely. Emergency officials urge residents to monitor alerts, avoid flooded roadways, and secure loose outdoor items. Rainfall should taper by mid-morning.

While Monday begins stormy, conditions will dry out by Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs will remain in the upper 80s early in the week before surging back into the low-to-mid 90s Thursday under breezy south winds.

Stay alert—additional watches or warnings may be issued if storm intensity increases.
