Denver, Colorado – Storms, scorching heat, and a growing air quality concern are lining up across Colorado heading into the weekend.
The National Weather Service warns of strong thunderstorms over the Front Range and I-25 corridor Friday afternoon, bringing 60 mph wind gusts, hail, and heavy downpours. According to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, an Ozone Action Day Alert remains in effect through 4 p.m. Thursday for Denver, Boulder, and eight other counties. Conditions may worsen again Friday as heat and calm winds return.
Friday marks a sharp uptick in summer hazards. Highs will soar to 92°F in Denver under mostly sunny skies, making it one of the hottest days this month. If storms form, they’ll likely hit between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., potentially impacting I-70 and I-25 commutes. Residents should limit outdoor exertion, especially those with respiratory conditions.
Saturday stays hot with highs in the mid-90s and slightly calmer conditions. Thunderstorms return Sunday afternoon, continuing on and off into Tuesday, July 1. While no widespread severe weather is expected, isolated strong cells could emerge daily east of the Rockies.
Prepare now by charging devices, limiting car trips during ozone alerts, and planning early outdoor activity. Storm spotters may be activated Friday.
