Binghamton, NY – Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms may sweep through the Southern Tier of New York and northeastern Pennsylvania between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. today, with the risk of damaging wind gusts and localized flash flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, there is low confidence in widespread thunderstorm development, but any storms that do form could intensify quickly. A Heat Advisory remains in effect for Sullivan County, NY, and portions of northeastern Pennsylvania, including Luzerne, Lackawanna, and Pike counties, where high humidity and temperatures may still approach dangerous levels.

The primary weather threat today will be scattered showers and embedded thunderstorms developing this afternoon and continuing into the overnight hours. Damaging wind and heavy localized rain could lead to ponding on roads and flash flood risks, especially in low-lying or poorly drained areas.

Residents are urged to monitor local alerts, avoid travel during heavy downpours, and never drive through flooded roads. Those in mobile homes or outdoor activities should have a safety plan in place in case warnings are issued.

Storm chances taper overnight, but additional updates are expected later today as conditions evolve.
