Spartanburg, South Carolina – Triple-digit heat will grip Upstate South Carolina on Tuesday, with Spartanburg expected to hit 98°F and heat index values nearing 103°. Drivers along I-85 and residents across Greenville and Spartanburg counties should limit outdoor exposure and prepare for sweltering afternoons through Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, a Heat Advisory may be issued Tuesday afternoon as muggy conditions combine with mid-to-upper 90s. The Upper Savannah River Valley and areas near I-77 are under particular scrutiny for potential advisories. Overnight cooling will be limited, making it harder for homes without air conditioning to recover from daytime highs.

Anyone working outdoors should take frequent breaks in the shade and stay hydrated. Lightweight, light-colored clothing is recommended. Check on vulnerable neighbors and never leave people or pets in parked cars — even for a few minutes.

While Tuesday and Wednesday bring the worst of the heat, isolated afternoon thunderstorms may develop both days after 3 p.m. Coverage will be scattered, with brief relief in some areas. Storm chances continue into Thursday and Friday, especially during the late afternoon hours.

⚠️ What’s Next: Heat and humidity will remain the dominant story through at least Thursday night. Another Heat Advisory is possible by Wednesday. Expect updates from the NWS as conditions evolve.
