Pennsylvania/New Jersey Weather Alert: Heat Advisory in Effect for Philadelphia, Camden Until 8 p.m. Thursday

Philadelphia, PA – A wave of oppressive heat and humidity will grip the region through Thursday evening, creating dangerous conditions for residents. Heat index values could reach 99 degrees, prompting officials to urge caution during outdoor activities, especially for Juneteenth celebrations. The most intense conditions are expected during the peak afternoon hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Heat Advisory remains active until 8 p.m. EDT Thursday. The alert covers a wide area, including Philadelphia, Delaware, and Chester counties in Pennsylvania. In New Jersey, the advisory includes Camden, Gloucester, and Northwestern Burlington counties. Wilmington and New Castle County in Delaware are also under the same advisory.

Residents should take the heat seriously. Staying in an air-conditioned room and avoiding direct sun are strongly recommended. Public health officials advise drinking plenty of fluids to stay hydrated and checking on relatives and vulnerable neighbors. If you must be outside, wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and try to limit strenuous activities to the early morning or late evening hours.

The weather pattern will shift slightly for the Juneteenth holiday on Thursday. While the day starts mostly sunny with a high near 92, showers and thunderstorms become likely after 2 p.m. The chance of precipitation is 60 percent. Looking ahead, the weekend promises a return to sunny skies but with escalating heat. Friday’s high will approach 96 degrees, followed by a mostly sunny Saturday with a high near 91. The heat intensifies Sunday and Monday, with high temperatures reaching 96 and 98 degrees, respectively, under sunny skies.
