Pittsfield, Mass. – Parts of New England could see flooding late Friday as rounds of thunderstorms bring intense rainfall to western Massachusetts and neighboring eastern New York.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Flood Watch is in effect from noon until 8 p.m. for the Berkshires, including Pittsfield, Great Barrington, and North Adams, as well as nearby areas across the New York border such as Hudson, Troy, and Schroon Lake. The humid air mass over the region is expected to fuel repeated storms capable of dropping more than two inches of rain in short bursts.

Flooding is most likely in urban neighborhoods, small stream basins, and poorly drained areas. Roads near hillsides and creeks—especially in towns like Egremont and Sandisfield—could become impassable during heavy downpours. Officials warn that flash floods may develop quickly where storms linger.

Residents are urged to avoid flooded roads, secure outdoor items, and check local alerts throughout the day. Charging devices and preparing backup travel routes are also recommended.

The flood threat is expected to taper off Friday night, but additional warnings may be issued if rainfall continues into early Saturday. Stay alert and be ready to act if conditions worsen.
