Pittsfield, Mass. – Residents in the Berkshires should prepare for possible flash flooding Friday afternoon as slow-moving thunderstorms with heavy rainfall move across western Massachusetts.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Flood Watch is in effect from noon through late evening for all of Berkshire County, including towns like North Adams, Pittsfield, Great Barrington, and Sandisfield. The storms are expected to bring repeated rounds of heavy rain, potentially dumping more than two inches in a short time.

Flooding is most likely in low-lying areas, creeks, and poor drainage spots—especially where recent rain has already saturated the ground. Urban flooding could also impact roads in town centers and near construction zones. Officials say drivers should avoid water-covered roads and keep an eye on changing conditions.

If rainfall rates intensify, flash flood warnings could follow. Residents are urged to charge phones, check sump pumps, and have an emergency plan in case roads become blocked or travel is disrupted.

The threat should subside overnight, but forecasters caution that more alerts are possible if rainfall continues into Saturday. Stay weather-aware and be ready to act quickly if warnings are issued.
