Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Thunderstorms could slam into southwestern Pennsylvania Thursday afternoon, disrupting travel and daily routines across Pittsburgh just as temperatures spike to near 87°F.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected after 2 p.m. Thursday, June 5, with an 80% chance of rain. South winds around 6 mph will accompany the heat, pushing humidity higher and increasing the risk for strong downpours and localized flooding. Drivers along I-376 and Route 28 should watch for water accumulation and delays during the evening commute.

Rainfall amounts may exceed a quarter inch where storms become more intense. Thunderstorm chances will continue Thursday night with another 50% chance of rain and potential lightning. Friday brings more of the same, with a 60% chance of storms after 2 p.m. and a high near 79°F. Weekend travelers should also brace for soggy conditions. Saturday and Sunday will stay mostly cloudy, with daily rain chances ranging from 60% to 70%.

Residents should secure outdoor items, check sump pumps, and stay weather-aware through mobile alerts. Flash flooding in low-lying areas remains a concern as storm totals build.

Warnings remain in effect through Saturday night. Another round of rain is likely Monday with a continued risk of thunderstorms.
