Grand Junction, CO – Afternoon thunderstorms are expected to return across western Colorado and southeast Utah through Thursday, bringing a renewed risk of moderate to heavy rainfall and localized flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, moisture from the remnants of Tropical Storm Alvin is combining with regional instability to spark scattered storms each afternoon and evening. Areas from the Roan and Tavaputs Plateaus to the Uncompahgre and San Juan Mountains could experience repeated rounds of storms beginning Wednesday afternoon.

Cities like Grand Junction, Moab, and Montrose should prepare for isolated downpours and lightning. Storms may impact travel on US 50, I-70, and state highways near canyon regions, where runoff could lead to minor flash flooding. Thunderstorms are most likely between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. daily, with coverage peaking Thursday.

Residents should avoid hiking in slot canyons and delay travel through mountainous routes during storms. Spotter reports are encouraged but activation is not expected.

Rain chances decrease by Friday, with dry and warmer weather returning for the weekend. Updates and advisories remain possible through Thursday night.
