Amarillo, Texas – Strong thunderstorms have begun developing across the northeastern Panhandles of Texas, with gusty winds and the potential for penny-sized hail. According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, wind gusts ranging from 40 to 50 mph are expected, and a few stronger storms may bring hail up to 0.75 inches in diameter.
The storms are primarily affecting the northeastern combined Panhandles, including areas such as Perrytown, Canadian, and the region around Graver. These storms are expected to last until at least 3 a.m. Sunday morning, posing risks for travelers and those with outdoor activities.
As the thunderstorms progress, officials advise caution on the roads, particularly in areas prone to high winds and hail. Drivers should stay alert to rapidly changing conditions and seek shelter if severe weather intensifies.
Warnings remain in effect through 3 a.m., and further updates may follow if conditions worsen or new storm systems develop.
