Sacramento, Calif. – A sprawling heat wave is gripping the West Coast this weekend, pushing temperatures past 100°F across California’s Central Valley, eastern Oregon, western Nevada, and southern Idaho, with multiple heat advisories in effect through Saturday night and into early Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service, much of interior California is under a Heat Advisory until 10 p.m. Saturday or later, with highs ranging from 99°F to 107°F and a Major HeatRisk in areas like Sacramento, Fresno, and the northern San Joaquin Valley. Conditions are particularly dangerous for older adults, outdoor workers, and residents without air conditioning.

In Oregon and Idaho, inland valleys and lower elevations — including Ontario, Baker City, and Boise — are expected to reach record highs of 95°F to 102°F today. Meanwhile, parts of Nevada’s western basin, from Fallon to Hawthorne, are facing similar heat with advisories active through 7 p.m.

Officials urge residents to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, drink plenty of water, and check on neighbors, especially those at risk. Outdoor workers should take frequent shaded breaks per OSHA guidelines. Car interiors can reach fatal temperatures within minutes — never leave pets or children unattended.

Additional advisories may be issued if heat lingers into Sunday.
