Burlington, Vermont – A soggy start to June will drench northern Vermont Sunday, but summer sun is waiting just behind the clouds.
According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, a nor’easter tracking through the region will bring steady rain and gusty winds to Chittenden, Franklin, Addison, and surrounding counties by Sunday morning. Up to an inch of rainfall is expected by evening, especially in higher elevations, with wind gusts reaching 40 mph along major roadways like I-89 and Route 7. Flooding is unlikely, but poor drainage areas may see standing water.
By Sunday night, showers will taper off, setting the stage for a sunnier week. Monday turns partly sunny with highs near 70°F. Skies will clear Monday night, and by Tuesday, Vermont enters a warm stretch with highs climbing toward the mid-80s by Wednesday.
Here’s the 5-Day Summer Preview:
- Sunday (June 1): Rain and gusts up to 40 mph. High near 63°F.
- Monday: Chance of early showers, then sunny. High near 70°F.
- Tuesday: Clear and calm. High near 79°F.
- Wednesday: Warm and sunny. High near 87°F.
- Thursday: Mostly sunny, 84°F with a slight chance of showers late.
Smoke from Canadian wildfires may linger in the region early in the week, reducing visibility and air quality slightly.
