Miami, Florida – Scattered thunderstorms could sweep across South Florida’s east coast by this afternoon, bringing lightning, gusty winds, and pockets of heavy rain from Miami to West Palm Beach.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, shifting winds are increasing the likelihood of storms developing along the Atlantic coast and near Lake Okeechobee, where rain chances top 60% in some areas. The plume of Saharan Dust drifting into the region may cap storm growth inland but won’t prevent afternoon convection near the coast.

Palm Beach County and eastern Broward are most likely to see downpours, with storm timing expected between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Residents in areas like Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, and Belle Glade should be prepared for sudden lightning strikes and poor driving conditions.

Temperatures will climb into the low to mid-90s again today, increasing heat stress, especially for outdoor workers and vulnerable populations. Stay hydrated, limit sun exposure, and avoid flooded roadways during storms.

Storm chances diminish overnight, but unsettled conditions could return this weekend. Stay tuned for updates from NWS Miami and check alerts before heading out.
