Indianapolis, Indiana – Isolated severe storms may rattle northeast and central Indiana this evening, with wind gusts as high as 50 mph expected between 8 p.m. and 1 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, scattered thunderstorms will develop ahead of a frontal boundary, bringing the greatest threat of damaging wind gusts mainly north of I-74. While the overall severe risk remains low, isolated pockets could experience 40 to 50 mph gusts—strong enough to knock down small limbs or unsecured outdoor items.

Cities including Kokomo, Muncie, Anderson, and Marion sit in the area of highest concern. Farther south, Indianapolis could see some brief heavy rain or gusty winds as storms track eastward through late evening.

If you’re headed out tonight, be prepared for rapidly changing conditions. Tie down patio furniture and bring lightweight items indoors. Lightning is also possible with some of these cells, especially near Lafayette and Richmond.

Storms are expected to weaken after midnight, but another round of showers is possible early Saturday. Stay tuned to local alerts in case additional advisories are issued this evening.
