Albany, N.Y. – A soaking rain is on the way for eastern New York and western New England as a fast-developing coastal storm tracks up the coast Friday night into Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, there’s a greater than 70% chance that areas including the Capital Region, mid-Hudson Valley, Taconics, and the Green Mountains will receive over 1 inch of rain by early Saturday. The heaviest rainfall is expected overnight, with steady rain continuing into midday.

Cities like Albany, Pittsfield, Rutland, and Keene are all in line for widespread totals between 0.75 and 1.25 inches, with higher amounts possible in Newburgh and parts of southern Vermont. While flooding isn’t expected to be widespread, low-lying areas may still see some ponding during downpours.

Rain will be accompanied by breezy conditions, especially along the higher terrain. If you’re heading out early Saturday, give yourself extra time — wet roads and reduced visibility are likely across I-87, Route 7, and the Massachusetts Turnpike.

Showers should taper off by Saturday evening, but cooler, cloudy conditions will linger. More updates could follow if rainfall trends shift.
