Philadelphia, PA – Flooding and wind damage could hit parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland tonight as a potent weather system moves into the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Flood Watch will take effect from 7 p.m. Friday through 8 a.m. Saturday. Rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected, with brief bursts of over 1 inch per hour. Widespread ponding is likely, and some roads may become impassable overnight.

The flood threat is paired with a low-end severe storm risk, primarily between 4 and 10 p.m. Friday. Damaging wind gusts could knock down trees and power lines, especially across the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Isolated severe storms may also impact southeast Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, and northern Delaware before the heavier rain sets in.

Philadelphia, Trenton, Allentown, and Wilmington could see street flooding during the Friday evening commute. Smaller streams and urban areas near Lancaster, Reading, and Cherry Hill are especially vulnerable.

Drivers should avoid flooded roads and keep cell phones charged. If you live in a flood-prone area, move vehicles to higher ground and clear storm drains.

The flood watch remains in effect through Saturday morning. Additional alerts could be issued if storm intensity increases.
