Phoenix, Arizona – A high ozone pollution advisory remains in effect across the Phoenix metro area Friday morning, raising health concerns for children, seniors, and those with respiratory issues.

According to the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ), the Ozone High Pollution Advisory, first issued earlier this week, has been extended through Friday due to stagnant weather and rising temperatures fueling poor air quality across Maricopa County.

Daytime highs are expected to reach 103°F Friday and spike to 102°F Saturday, creating conditions that trap ground-level ozone. The National Weather Service notes breezy afternoon winds could offer limited relief, but calm morning and evening air will likely keep pollutant levels elevated.

Residents across Phoenix, Mesa, Chandler, and surrounding cities are encouraged to reduce driving, telecommute if possible, and delay the use of gas-powered lawn equipment until evening. Sensitive groups should avoid outdoor exercise during peak afternoon hours, when ozone levels are highest.

This is the second ozone advisory this month, reflecting a trend toward worsening early-summer air quality in the Valley.

Air quality alerts are expected to remain in place through Friday evening. Check azdeq.gov or call 602-771-2300 for updates and health guidance.
