Chicago, Illinois – Drivers south of I-80 may encounter patchy fog tonight as low clouds and cool air persist across the region, holding nighttime temperatures in the low 50s.

According to the National Weather Service Chicago, drier conditions are expected overnight, with patchy fog mainly affecting areas south of Interstate 80. Thursday will bring another cool day, with highs ranging from 66°F to 74°F—cooler near Lake Michigan. Isolated afternoon showers could develop, though significant rainfall is not expected.

By Friday, warmer air begins to push in across northern Illinois, lifting daytime highs into the mid-70s to near 80°F. Scattered showers and a possible thunderstorm may accompany this temperature bump, especially in the afternoon and evening. The warming trend continues through the weekend, with highs reaching the upper 70s to low 80s Saturday and Sunday.

Motorists should use caution during early morning commutes, especially in fog-prone areas south of Joliet and Kankakee. Residents are advised to monitor local alerts and prepare for light rain Friday by adjusting outdoor plans.

More consistent warmth is expected into early next week, but another round of showers could arrive by late Sunday. Updates will follow if additional advisories are issued.
